Mr Wedgwood and Mr Brindley's Guide to Placemaking

Sat, 17/06/2023 - 10:00
Meet outside St John's Church Woodbank St, Burslem, ST6 3JY
Wedgwood & Brindley's Guide to Placemaking

Saturday 17th June 2023

Civic Day

10:00 - 12:30

Join us to celebrate Civic Day with a walking tour looking at placemaking, illuminated by the wisdom of Josiah Wedgwood and James Brindley, whose work on pottery manufacture and canals in the 18th Century transformed the area now known as The Potteries. The 3-mile walk leads from St John's Church in Burslem to Longport, and then via the Trent & Mersey Canal to the site of Wedgwood's factory in Etruria.

There is a shorter return route (under 2 miles) through Festival Park and The Grange, or you can make your own arrangements.

Although open to all, we hope this event will be of particular interest to built environment professionals and we can provide CPD certification on request.

The event is free but donations to the Society will be welcomed on the day or online.

BOOK YOUR PLACE

"We are now at an important juncture in our city's relatively short history, and big decisions need to be made in terms of its future direction, and both Wedgwood and Brindley's contribution will still remain central to our success as a place."
